Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 range, which includes a long-range variant with a 77.4kWh battery producing a claimed 610km range (WLTP), is expected to begin production later this year.

Deliveries are initially due to follow to Europe, then the US early next year, with the market launch schedule and pricing to be announced later.

A fully electric Hyundai N variant is likely to be announced on July 15, the Ioniq global launch ceremony heard.

Meanwhile, the Ioniq 6’s aerodynamic shape which aids its range was earlier released along with other design details.

The Ioniq 6 is available with a range of drive motors and battery packs to fit the needs of every customer. The long-range 77.4kWh battery can be mated with two electric motor layouts, either rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or all-wheel-drive (AWD). The top-of-the-line dual motor setup is an AWD option producing a combined power output of 239kW and 605Nm of torque. This PE configuration can go from zero to 100km/h in 5.1 seconds.

The 53kWh standard battery with 18-inch tyres and RWD motor option is estimated to produce under 14kWh/100km energy consumption, said to make the Ioniq 6 one of the most energy efficient EVs in the market.

Described as “spacious”, the interior offers personalised space with features allowing relaxation and a workstation, ambient lighting with speed synchronisation, and an EV performance tune-up allowing drivers can create a variety of different combinations with just a few button clicks to meet their individual needs.

Four type-C and one type-A USB ports are available.

A modular touchscreen dashboard integrates a 12-inch full-touch infotainment display and 12-inch digital cluster housing advanced technologies, the widescreen display including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Ioniq 6’s infotainment system provides real-time travel radius mapping based on the current state of charge. The system’s connected car services also help search and plan the best route to include a charging station along the way.

Bluetooth multi-connection support allows two devices to be paired at the same time — one for phone calls and one for music streaming, and a premium Bose sound system features eight speakers, including a subwoofer.

Advanced driver assistance systems ensure high safety levels, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates are available too, while electric active sound design (e-ASD) is included.

The “electrified streamliner” uses Hyundai’s E-GMP EV platform to provide an extremely long 2950mm wheelbase, supported by a choice of 20-inch or 18-inch wheels.

An overall length of 4855mm, 1880mm width and 1495mm height give it a distinctively sleek and stylish appearance which Hyundai expects will make it stand out.

An Ioniq 6 Digital Studio allows extended reality (XR) content that provides an immersive experience for people to encounter the Ioniq 6 in a virtual reality space.

The studio consists of six themed spaces that reflect the lifestyles of Ioniq 6 consumers who cana access the studio via their computers, laptops, or mobile phones and experience a variety of interactive content including a driving experience and product specifications through virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and head mounted display.

The Ioniq 6 will also be available in leading metaverse platforms, such as Hyundai Mobility Adventure on Roblox and Planet Hyundai on ZEPETO, where users can do virtual test drives and experience core features.

“Ioniq 6 is the next ambitious step forward in Hyundai Motor’s strategy to accelerate its transition to electrification and into a position as a global leader in EVs,” says Hyundai Motor Company president and chief executive Jaehoon Chang, adding it will provide a distinctive experience for drivers and passengers, optimised in every way to redefine electric mobility.

By 2030 Hyundai will have 11 battery electric vehicle (BEV) models to serve diverse lifestyles, Chang explains. These are expected to include three sedan models, six SUVs, one light commercial vehicle and one new model.

“Ioniq 6 is designed and engineered to seamlessly enhance our daily lives as space to awaken your potential,” says Hyundai customer experience division head and global chief marketing officer Thomas Schemera.

“The innovative interior is meticulously thought out as a cocoon-like personal space, enhanced with the latest technologies to create a safe, fun, and stress-free driving experience. The spacious interior, with sustainability and usability at its heart, once again represents a step forward for electric vehicles, in line with the values of our customers.”
