The Guangzhou Automobile Group Co (GAC) showed its Aion V electric SUV at Mobility Live 2024 in Melbourne (October 30-31) and GAC says it will enter the Australian market mid-2025.
Aion means AI (artificial intelligence) on the road (on), GAC spotlighting its flagship EV at the Melbourne event, saying the Aion V fully complies with Australian regulatory standards.
GAC also introduced two charging solutions at the show – an intelligent home charger for residential use and the A480 ultra-fast charger for highways and urban hubs.
It says Australia, with more than a million vehicles and growth potential, represents an opportunity for GAC to extend its global reach.
The brand says it’s in a preparatory phase, laying groundwork through dealer recruitment, channel development, and service system establishment.
With global experience in 70 countries and regions, GAC says it is positioned to overcome logistical challenges posed by fluctuating global shipping capacities.
“Supply chain risk management and real-time delivery monitoring will ensure smooth availability in Australia.”
GAC says it will focus on brand value, product innovation, and local market integration, building lasting relationships with Australian consumers and positioning Aion as a household name.
In 2023, GAC produced more than 2.5 million vehicles, making it a top five car maker in its home market of China, The Driven reports, adding the Aion V is GAC’s global electric model and was announced in July this year with a starting price equivalent to less than $A28,000.
The Aion V is available globally with two motor options, featuring 150kW and 165kW power, along with several battery options ranging from 62kWh to 90kWh, delivering ranges from 520km to 750km on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) which is likely less on the WTLP cycle used in Australia, says The Driven.
Full specifications and pricing are expected closer to the launch.
