The Western Australian Government’s $12.5 million injection into EV charging infrastructure has been welcomed by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).
EV charging infrastructure is absolutely critical to a low emissions technology future, says the FCAI.
It says the investment in round two of the Charge Up Workplace Electric Vehicle grant program will help expand charging infrastructure throughout Western Australia and support not for-profits, small and medium businesses, and local government authorities to purchase and install EV chargers.
The program aims to maximise daytime EV charging, promote off-peak charging, and support the conversion to EV fleets.
This initiative underscores the importance of building the necessary infrastructure to support the increasing number of EVs on Western Australian roads, says the FCAI.
This year Western Australians have so far purchased 6590 new EVs, up from more than 1845 during the same period last year, it explains.
“EVs currently account for 6.4% of new vehicle sales in the state.”
