A Perth pair are using a Tesla Model 3 to tow a modified 1986 Cub Drifter caravan around Australia.
The Tesla Owners Club of Western Australia records EV drivers who have successfully completed “the big lap” since 2011, currently 31, says The Driven.
The Driven has already reported on one of the Perth pair, known as “Atto Gal”, who drove from Perth to Sydney and back last year in a BYD Atto 3, and is closely following the latest attempt.
It says the caravan includes air conditioning, a king-size bed, a battery pack, and 830W of solar panels – all under the 750kg caravan weight limit.
The Driven adds that one of the couple used knowledge gained while working as an engineer with Zenith Energy, building some of Australia’s largest standalone hybrid power stations, to make the caravan a mobile renewable power station able to store almost 16kWh of energy (which can be replenished by either the solar panels, a regular wall outlet, or a 15A caravan park socket) for charging the car at up to 5kW when off grid or 7kW when in a caravan park.
The Tesla and caravan were last reported going to Queensland after doing more than 5000km up Western Australia to Darwin.
