The Kona Electric will make its Australian debut and the Ioniq 5 N has its first Melbourne appearance at the Melbourne EV Show, September 22-24, at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Hyundai’s stand there will also showcase the newly crowned 2023 World Car of the Year Ioniq 6 and 2022 World Car of the Year Ioniq 5.

“The Melbourne EV Show will provide a terrific showcase for our exciting new range of electric vehicles,” says Hyundai Motor Company Australia chief executive Ted Lee.

“With the all-new Kona Electric and the high-performance Ioniq 5 N, alongside our World Car of the Year-winning Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, the Hyundai stand will highlight our continuing commitment to bringing advanced electrified vehicles to Australia.”

The show will present new and soon-to-be-released EVs and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), as well as charging options and accessories.

It will also feature EV Live presentations, a Formula E race car, a Formula E simulation challenge, as well as an e-bike and scooter test track.

The Kona Electric has a choice of powertrains (99kW and 150kW), with about 500km range from its 64.8kWh battery.

It’s packed with technology, including active air flaps, vehicle-to-load (V2L), head-up display (HUD), i-PEDAL driving mode, smart regenerative braking system, battery pre-conditioning, heat pump and battery heater.

The Konaalso features over-the-air (OTA) software update capability and an extensive suite of SmartSense driver assistance and advanced active safety technology.

The Ioniq 5 N represents a new segment of driver-focused high performance EVs through the integration of new technologies and elevated racetrack capability.

These include “Corner Rascal” body and chassis reinforcements enabling rally-inspired dual-motor AWD cornering, with N Drift Optimiser; “Racetrack Capability” of up to 478kW with N Grin Boost engaged, thermal management and regenerative braking; and “Everyday Sportscar” N e-shift and N active sound plus.

A special one-day pre-sale event (September 15) gives people the chance to be among the first in Australia to take delivery of the Ioniq 5 N.
