The Jowett Motor Group (JMG) is acquiring the Canberra BMW, Canberra Mini Garage and Canberra BMW Motorrad businesses effective September 2, 2024.

This acquisition marks the fifth BMW Group dealership within the JMG portfolio.

Canberra BMW has been a cornerstone in the local community for more 40 years, currently employing 90 staff members across its Botany Street and Shea St locations in Phillip. The current dealer principal, Patrick Van Den Bogaart, will continue in his role, ensuring a seamless transition and continuity in leadership.

“The addition of Canberra BMW, Mini Garage and BMW Motorrad to the JMG business is a unique opportunity I am truly excited by, and it builds on a wonderful partnership that we have had for over 10 years with BMW Group Australia,” JMG founder and managing director Tony Jowett says.

“It is a well-run dealership under the leadership of Patrick, and I look forward to welcoming him and the dealership team to the JMG family,” he says.

Jowett Motor Group (JMG) was born in 1995 with the Audi, Volkswagen and Subaru brands before opening Eastern Honda Doncaster in 2000, which remains today. JMG has continued as a family-owned and operated business with its BMW and Honda dealerships across Victoria, South Australia, and now the Australian Capital Territory.

JMG is an established retail partner of Honda Australia, operating three metro Honda Centres: Eastern Honda, Northern Honda and Brighton Honda Centre. The JMG journey with Honda has been recognised by multiple National Dealer of the Year and Customer Excellence awards, leading to national sales and service volumes.

In 2013, JMG opened its first BMW dealership, Waverley BMW and later acquired South Yarra BMW in 2020. This was followed by the greenfield development of Berwick BMW opening in late 2020 and the recent introduction of Berwick Mini Garage. 2021 marked the opening of Glenelg BMW and Mini Garage, South Australia, is undergoing a full redevelopment of the Glenelg site and is due for completion in the second half of 2025.

Like the Honda Centres, the JMG BMW sites have been multi-award-winning businesses:
