Brisbane-based EV energy management and AC charging start-up Evos has revealed its EV charger for homes, the SB7.
The 7kW AC charger – designed and to be made in Australia – can add 35km of range every hour of charging time and has a built-in energy management system that selects the ideal idle time to charge the vehicle, or to leverage solar or battery power.
The charger is wi-fi connection capable, ensuring Evos and/or the homeowner can monitor and control the charger, while software updates can be made over-the-air (OTA).
It employs an end-to-end virtual private network (VPN) enabling a private and encrypted network that safeguards user privacy.
The Evos driver app allows drivers to monitor the SB7 and the cost of EV charging.
The free app allows users to set up different charge schedules, while the SB7 can be integrated to the Evos grid integration device (GID) to be available early 2024.
It enables drivers to utilise their energy better by choosing between solar or battery charging, providing dynamic load management and optimising tariff selection.
The SB7 has the latest safety features, such as its welding detection capability which allows the device to detect a permanently engaged switching contact which could put live AC voltage on the charge cable.
Not only can the SB7 detect this scenario, but it can also notify the cloud platform of the safety issue, and the charger can disconnect itself from the grid until the safety issue is rectified.
Ampol will be the national distributor partner for Evos and the SB7 EV charger, in addition to Evos’ Fleet Home22 Charger released last year.
Both chargers will be available to the public later this year.
