The Carsales “Epic Car Sale” is off to a flying start as it attempts to pump-up the flailing new car market.
Nearly 10,000 pre-registrations were received within the first 24 hours as consumers rifled through the offers being made from Fiat, Chrysler, Jeep and Alfa Romeo, Holden, Suzuki, Nissan and Renault, Jaguar and Land Rover, plus German prestige brands Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen.
The market remains in a state of retraction after 19 months of continuous monthly sales declines, with October recording a 77,803 sales deficit against the same period in 2018.
This is despite the optimistic expectations of passing one million units sold for the year.
Industry relations general manager Agostino Giramondo says it’s a tough time in retail car land.
“At a time when new car sales are down, Carsales is excited to pitch in and boost new car sales across Australia and provide car buyers with great value, and great opportunity,” he says.

Giramondo says early signs are positive but advises the industry shouldn’t be disillusioned.
“We like the idea of trying new ways to stimulate the market so more event style campaigns, whilst not planned, may well be repeated,” he reveals to AutoTalk.
“It’s important not to get ahead of ourselves and there are sure to be plenty of learnings from launching the very first of its kind for the auto market here in Australia,” he explains.
“With the 24 hour news cycle and the constant mood shifts consumers have towards the economy, we felt it was important… We are all a part of the automotive industry, so if it’s important for our customers (B2B and consumer) then it’s important to us to give a leg-up to the car industry,” Giramondo concludes.
The Epic Car Sale concludes on Saturday November 23 at midnight.
