Beam Global has announced the launch of the BeamWell water desalination and e-mobility delivery system, which uses Benzina Zero electric scooters.
The three-in-one solution addresses the need for clean drinking water, mobility and electricity in regions facing humanitarian crises.
The BeamWell product is a self-contained operational system used in war zones and disaster areas where only salt, brackish or dirty water is available.
It turns seawater into freshwater, which is then stored in an integrated 3000-litre tank; it provides a source of electricity for medical or communications devices; and it charges up to four Benzina Zero models to distribute food, water, and medications.
“We are living in unprecedented times when wars and natural disasters such as the recent hurricanes in the US are becoming commonplace,” Beam Global chief executive Desmond Wheatley says.
“At the same time, 40% of the world’s population lives by the sea and in areas most prone to natural disasters. By providing a container-transportable, off-grid power source paired with desalination and e-mobility, we address three needs in crises: clean water, reliable power and the means to distribute aid,” he says.
The BeamWell system is entirely self-contained and shipping-container-transportable. It deploys in minutes with no construction, electrical work, or requirement for any supporting infrastructure. It can be relocated as water supply challenges fluctuate.
Beam Global EV ARC technology, uses patented tracking solar technology to generate and store clean energy for e-mobility. The BeamWell solution will also use this renewable energy to desalinate water, provide power, and deliver aid.
Recent estimates suggest around 60 million people in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) lack access to clean and safe drinking water. As of October 2024, the water crisis in Gaza is severe, with nearly 2.3 million residents facing restricted access to clean water due to the ongoing conflict and damage to water infrastructure.
This lack of access to clean water contributes to a public health crisis. Aid deliveries have included water, but the quantities are insufficient to meet the entire population’s needs, and many organisations are having trouble providing support throughout the region during the conflict.
Beam Global is finalising deployment plans, with the first BeamWell systems expected to be delivered to the Middle East as soon as possible through global aid organisations.
