Type R arrival completes Australian Honda Civic family

Honda Australia says the arrival of the all-new 2023 Type-R hot hatch at a national drive away price of $72,600 officially completes its new generation Civic family in market.

The Civic VTi LX was introduced into the market in late 2021, followed by the Civic e:HEV LX and now the all-new Civic Type R.

Based on the all-new 11th generation Civic Hatchback, Honda says the 2023 Civic Type R embodies it’s challenging spirit, leveraging its deep roots in competition with racetrack-proven engineering that maximizes performance without sacrificing civilized road manners.

A significantly more rigid body structure supports both improved dynamics and refinement. Civic Type R’s sharp responses and addictive driving feel are increased even further by enhanced suspension and steering performance. The upgraded Brembo braking system gives the driver a solid sense of control and stability. Four driving modes, including a new Individual mode, enable drivers to truly customise their experience.

The new Civic Type R combines its performance with a sleeker, more sophisticated look which beautifully integrates advanced aerodynamics for a powerful low and wide form. Its muscular exterior is more aerodynamically efficient, generating significantly more downforce to improve high speed stability says Honda.

It says the cockpit of the new Type R enhances driving with performance-focused details and features including Type R’s iconic red seats, aluminium shift knob, and a serialized Type R plate on the dash. The instrument panel features a metal honeycomb panel, a styling detail that serves both form and function by also concealing the air vents.

An updated version of the Honda Log-R data logger will be available for this new generation of Civic Type R, combining performance data from the onboard computer and in-car sensors with a new built-in vehicle app, rather than just the smartphone app available on the previous model. Log-R helps drivers monitor and record a variety of performance parameters in real time when driving on the track or other closed courses, helping to improve driving skills.

Honda Australia says it places a great importance in a suite of safety features to be included in every model launch. The all-new Civic Type R is no exception to this, as its Honda Sensing suite provides Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Keep Assist System to Road Departure Mitigation System.

The Civic Type R come with 5 years of Honda Connect complimentary telematics services. It is a mobile application feature that allows customers to access vehicle information and interact with their vehicle via a Telematics Control Unit (TCU).
