Suzuki enjoying its best sales figures in 10 years

Suzuki Australia has confirmed that it’s within touching distance of achieving its best ever year of sales.

The Japanese manufacturer’s local arm has released the brand’s sales data from the first six months of 2022, showcasing its strongest figures since 2012.

Between January and June, Suzuki Australia sold 11,246 vehicles across Australia. This represents a commendable 21.1% lift year-on-year.

The figures are made all the more impressive by the fact that the brand’s 2021 sales (17,468 vehicles) were the strongest digits notched up by Suzuki in three years.

According to Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries data, Suzuki’s strongest year of sales came in 2010, when it recorded 24,789 deliveries in Australia. The brand will need to pull out all the stops if it wants to best that figure in 2022.

Suzuki’s smallest models have enjoyed renewed popularity in recent years. This is in part thanks to COVID-19’s impacts on spending habits, as well as the decision from other manufacturers to move affordable models upmarket or to cull them altogether.

The Suzuki Swift’s class, for example, has seen radical change in recent years. Ford no longer offers the Fiesta locally barring the ST hot hatch, and it’s the same story for Hyundai’s i20.

The Honda Jazz has been culled from the Australian market, despite it being offered for sale in New Zealand. The Toyota Yaris, meanwhile, has moved upmarket with much higher pricing.

Beyond its micro- and light-car fleet, the brand is set to lose the Baleno later this year, it will soon add the heavily revised S-Cross.
