Seven-time Olympian Sir Mark Todd is the latest equestrian ambassador for Land Rover.
Todd, 61, one of the most successful riders of all time, joins Land Rover’s illustrious stable of equestrian ambassadors which includes Zara Tindall, Nick Skelton, Ben Maher, Sir Lee Pearson, Harry Meade and England polo player Max Charlton.
Todd, the five-times Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials winner, has one of the most celebrated careers in equestrian sport. He won back-to-back gold medals aboard Charisma in 1984 and 1988. Since then, he has competed at five more Olympics and won a further individual bronze, a team silver and two team bronze medals.
The New Zealander, who now lives near Swindon in the United Kingdom, says he’s used Land Rover vehicles all his life, as their durability and versatility is important for his work and lifestyle. “I am really looking forward to being part of the Land Rover team.”
Jaguar Land Rover UK marketing director Scott Dicken says: “Sir Mark Todd is a true sporting icon, whose achievements in the saddle are outstanding. He is a great fit for Land Rover values of going ‘above and beyond’. We are excited to work with him and look forward to him meeting our customers throughout the season.”
After an international career spanning four decades, Todd will continue in top-level competition this year. That includes the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials on August 31-September 3, 38 years since he first competed there.
“The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials has always been my favourite event,” Todd says. “Of all the four-star events, it has the most relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The cross-country course is spectacular, with iconic fences like the Land Rover Discovery Valley and Cottesmore Leap. I absolutely love competing there.”
Land Rover continues its long-term support of events in the UK and around the world with the Royal Windsor Horse Show (May10-14), the Festival of British Eventing, (August 4-6) and the Pony Club Regional Championships throughout the UK during August and September.
