A 1985 Holden Dealer Team (HDT) VK Group A Commodore Blue Meanie once owned by the AFL’s highest goal scorer, Tony ‘Plugger’ Lockett is being auctioned by Lloyds alongside the footy grand final on September 30.
The Blue Meanie is reputedly the most famous of all the HDT Commodores created by the late Peter Brock, with only 500 made.
“It is quite rare to see these cars at auction in condition such as this one, and also owned by an Australian Football Hall of Fame member such as Tony Lockett,” Lloyds Auctions COO Lee Hames says.
Once retailing for $21,950 brand new, Hames says these cars are now achieving more than $1 million for vehicles in pristine condition.
Hames also says with the strength of passion investing continuing strong and driving up prices according to the Knight Frank wealth report, buyers of classic and collectable cars are changing in age as Generation Xers reach peak earning potential.
Other passion investments on offer this weekend include $10 million worth of assets going under the including pink diamonds, mancave memorabilia and a 2011 Luxury Princess Sports Yacht and 1988 Ferrari 328 GTS with no reserve price set.
“It is going to be a massive weekend of auctions, highlighting the unreserved Princess V62 luxury yacht and the 328 GTS Ferrari, we have never seen passion investments in this price bracket go unreserved at auction anywhere,” Hames says.
He says it is a auction that is not to be missed, kicking off with more than 250 Classic Cars going under the hammer live on September 30 from 10am.
