
The new Parliamentary Friends of Electric Vehicles and Future Fuels Transport group has been officially launched by climate change and energy minister Chris Bowen.
The June 14 launch included an EV display on Canberra’s Parliament House lawns involving one of the first public showings of the electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz ‘Kombi Van’ in Australia, and EVs from Audi, BMW, Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, BYD, Polestar, Cupra, MG and Volvo.
Michelle Ananda-Rajah co-chairs the Parliamentary Friends group alongside Monique Ryan, among about 30 MPs involved.
Others at the launch included Electric Vehicle Council chief executive Behyad Jafari, Transurban chief financial officer Michelle Jablko and Origin Energy strategy and e-mobility general manager Chau Le.
The EV group intends running several events this parliamentary term to keep Australia’s EV momentum going.
