BMW Australia will enhance its successful X7 flagship Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) line-up with a new six-cylinder petrol variant launching towards the end of this year.

Priced from $167,900 (RRP) with customer deliveries starting in Q4, the X7 xDrive40i is powered by BMW’s six-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine – which also features in the new BMW X5 and X6 – and integrates 48-volt mild hybrid technology,

It represents an entry point in the X7 line-up, says BMW, adding the BMW X7 xDrive40i develops 280kW power and up to 540Nm torque.

The new variant also features identical equipment as the X7 xDrive40d.

The new-generation mild hybrid technology comprises a crankshaft-mounted starter generator integrated in the transmission housing which fires the combustion engine and recuperates kinetic energy during coasting and braking.

The accompanying 48-volt battery powers the generator, stores recuperated energy and powers the on-board electrical system.

The new six-cylinder engine partners with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission including shift paddles on the steering wheel. Engine power is channelled to the road – or unsurfaced terrain, if required – via the intelligent all-wheel-drive system BMW xDrive.

Specification highlights include metallic paint, M Sport package, 22-inch light alloy wheels, an alarm System, automatic air-conditioning with five-zone control (including the third row), automatic split tailgate with contactless opening function, BMW Drive Recorder, BMW Live Cockpit Professional featuring 14.9-inch curved control display and BMW Operating System 8.5, panorama glass roof, plus extensive and connected driver assistance and safety systems.

The BMW X7 xDrive40i can be optioned in either the M Sport grade or “Design Pure Excellence” styling packages, with both carrying a $167,900 price.

In addition to the extensive standard fit specification elements, customers can further personalise and enhance their BMW X7 xDrive40i.

A trailer tow hitch ($2500) for instance Increases maximum towing capacity to 3500kg (280kg tow ball limit).

Six seat configuration ($1500) is available with 2+2+2 configuration and the second seating row featuring captain’s chairs.

An extensive range of bespoke paintworks for the BMW X7 (currently 55 colours) is available via the BMW Individual special ordering program.

A selection of alloy wheels is available for the new BMW X7, with a 23-inch design offered for the first time.

The recommended retail pricing (RRP) includes GST and LCT but excludes on-road costs.

Customers should contact their nearest BMW dealer for all pricing enquiries.
