A LinkedIn job advertisement for a marketing director based in Sydney has confirmed a significant move by Geely Auto as it unveils plans to launch into the Australian market.
Geely Auto will join its sibling automotive brands Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus in Australia, which are owned by the privately held Zhejiang Geely Holdings Group.
Previously, the Geely Auto brand was imported and distributed in Australia by WA dealer John Hughes between 2011 and 2014, but now the brand wants to set up its own distribution company.
According to the advertisement, Geely Auto is looking for a marketing director with eight years of automotive industry experience who will be responsible for the operation’s branding, marketing, and digital functions.
The advertisement talks about the launching event and proper positioning in the market.
According to Carsales reporter Bruce Newton, the arrival of Geely Auto is significant because it can offer a full range of vehicle types and compete with rivals such as Toyota and fellow China-based brands MG Motor and GWM.
Newton reports that in 2021, Geely Auto outlined a massive global expansion called Smart Geely 2025, referring to a plan to enter the Asia Pacific markets.
Newton believes the Geely Auto brand will be launching in Australia as soon as mid-2025.
