Lexus will break new ground on May 21 when the GX off-roader goes on sale in Australia.

According to the luxury brand, the three-model range is headlined by the GX 550 Overtrail, the most rugged adventure-focused Lexus.

Positioned on either side of Overtrail are the more family-focused Luxury and Sports Luxury grades – all three powered by a V6 twin-turbo engine developing 260kW and 650Nm for responsive performance and excellent towing ability.

The GX Luxury and Sports Luxury come in seven-seat configurations, offering maximum passenger and storage flexibility. At the same time, Overtrail limits occupants to five but has the extra load capacity desired for long journeys deep into rugged Australian terrain.

The GX is the third Lexus to debut in an all-new vehicle segment for the luxury brand in Australia over the last six months, following the launch of the LM last December and the LBX compact luxury SUV in March.

The local range of Lexus vehicles has never been stronger since the brand debuted in Australia in 1990, with the GX extending the product portfolio to 10 models to meet the diverse needs of more customers.

Full specifications for all GX 550 grades will be announced on May 21.
