A Volvo FH16 8×6 prime mover converted to electric by Janus Electric will from May carry copper concentrate from the OZ Minerals Carrapateena mine to Whyalla Port near Adelaide – a 165km journey.
It’s reported to be the world’s first electric triple road train.
The electric truck will use a charger and battery swap station at Port Augusta about 322km north of Adelaide and is expected to get 200-400km range.
The truck – with 620kWh of battery capacity producing 536.9kW power and 2500Nm torque – will do two or three trips but is expected to run 24-hours a day, Big Rigs reports from the launch of the “Vision Electric” project.
