The Capricorn Society recently hosted an industry gathering to launch the Capricorn Confidence Index.

The event began with insights from David Fraser and Bradley Gannon, who discussed Capricorn members’ vital role in shaping the automotive sector’s future.

According to the society, the Capricorn Confidence Index is Australia’s first and most accurate measure of business owner confidence in the future of the automotive aftermarket industry.

This year’s data reveals member confidence has steadily risen from 68.3 points in 2021 to 71.3 points in 2024.

WA Minister for Small Business Jackie Jarvis officially launched the  Confidence Index.

Jarvis highlighted the challenges of small business owners, focusing on the critical skills shortage in the automotive industry. She emphasised TAFE’s role in addressing this issue, pointing out that enhanced training and apprenticeship opportunities are essential for building a skilled workforce to meet industry demands.

Senator Matthew O’Sullivan focused on the role apprentices play in the industry while emphasising the sector’s pace of change and the promising opportunities ahead.

A lively panel brought perspectives from Capricorn Rising Stars 2024 Winner Megan Toia, Wembley Autocare business owner Moira DCruze, and Goldstar Transport, Australia Managing Director Sean Carren.

From the excitement of apprenticeships to insights from a seasoned enterprise, all agreed: the automotive industry offers an inspiring, secure career path with a bright future.
