Vietnam-based automotive manufacturer VinFast intends starting global EV deliveries this December.

It will stop making internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles this year to concentrate on fully electric ones like the VF 8 with the first 100 of these delivered in Vietnam and 65,000 global orders, including plans to send some to Europe, the US and Canada in three months.

The five-seater VF 8 SUV comes in Eco (standard) 260kW and 500Nm and Plus 300kW and 620Nm dual motor, all-wheel drive models with a claimed range varying from 418km to 469km respectively.

The Plus includes a panoramic sunroof among its extras.

A VF 9 seven-seater SUV is also offered.

VinFast showcased the VF 8 at the Fully Charged Live EV and home energy show in California on September 10 and 11, the show planned in Australia (Sydney, March 11-12, 2023), the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Canada.

The VF EVs include driver assistance functions and a “Smart Services” package while a battery subscription scheme to reduce vehicle cost was announced for pre-sales of the VF8 and VF9 but changed from September 1 to offer customers an option to purchase batteries with the EVs.

VinFast says it applies one battery subscription package with fixed monthly costs and unlimited range.

The US price for the VF 8 is reportedly around US$42,200 excluding battery subscription and US$57,500 for the VF 9.

The EVs have a 10-year or 201,168km warranty.

“VinFast always strives to make EVs more accessible to everyone, through innovative and flexible sales policies, and technologies that help integrate all aspects of life as well as the best ownership experience for customers, making the transition from gasoline cars to electric cars faster and easier,” says VinFast US chief service officer Craig Westbrook.
