Toyota Australia has confirmed that the brand’s much anticipated GR Corolla hot hatch is set to arrive in local showrooms in the first quarter of 2023.

“With the GR Corolla nearly here, Toyota’s mantra of building fun-to-drive cars is clear to see,” says Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley.

“With the GR brand’s motorsport DNA, the new GR Corolla promises to deliver on just what driving enthusiasts’ desire – high performance turbocharged power, agile and dynamic handling, and stylish good looks.”

The company has also confirmed allocation for Australia. A total of 500 are destined for local sale in the model’s first year.

Customers keen to lock in a GR Corolla of their own can lodge an expression of interest with their local Toyota dealer from today, September 15.

The news comes a day after Toyota’s North American arm lifted its embargo on driving impressions among journalists who have driven the GR Corolla already overseas, with many heaping glowing praise on the turbocharged all-wheel drive hatch.

As previously reported, the GR Corolla is fitted with a version of the turbocharged 1.6 litre three-cylinder from the GR Yaris, paired to all-wheel drive, with power and torque upped to 224kW and 370Nm.

The GR Corolla sports a six-speed manual transmission that automatically matches engine revs to the gear selected, a MacPherson strut front suspension and double wishbone rear suspension. Automatic versions of both the GR Yaris and GR Corolla are said to be in development.
