Australians should “bargain aggressively” for new cars, as end-of-financial year sales begin.
That’s the message John Cadogan of autoexpert.com.au gave 9NEWS buyers.
He says they should hit the car yards and make a low offer in the last week of the month.
The end of 2016-17 financial year is the time when new car dealers are most desperate to sell in order to meet sales targets, Cadogan says.
Motoring experts say smart shoppers can save thousands in last-minute discounts and get free extras like tinted windows, roof racks and leather seats by haggling and employing insider tips in the “prime window” before June 30, 9NEWS reports.
“Now is one of the best times to buy a new car,” Cadogan says.
“There are government incentives and some car dealers are under pressure. If you can find a car dealer who is under pressure and then low ball an offer to them, they might just jump for it.
“There are 300 different cars on sale in Australia right now from about 60 different brands. It’s an intensely competitive market and all car dealers are in it for themselves.”
