Toyota Australia has added a six-speed manual transmission to the GR Supra coupe line-up for the same price as the current eight-speed automatic and the car has also received changes to the steering and suspension for a more dynamic driving experience.
According to the manufacturer, the manual transmission is also 18kg lighter than the automatic, which further improves the cars driving dynamics. The cars will be available in Australian dealerships from the fourth quarter of 2022.
The GR Supra range will now open from $87,000 plus on-road costs for the GT variant, with the range-topping GTS will now ask $97,000 plus on-road costs.
Toyota says the new six-speed manual transmission features a short-stroke shift lever for a direct and smooth feel. A gear shift assistant feature has been adopted for manual transmissions, synchronising engine speeds with the selected gear to allow for smooth shifts. Customers also have the choice to disable Gear Shift Assistant when Sport mode is engaged.
The GR Supra’s electronic power steering and vehicle stability control systems have been more finely tuned by Toyota’s engineers to enhance turning response during initial steering input, complemented by changes to the suspension bush characteristics that promote greater steering feel.
All GR Supra model now offer ventilated sports brakes with red callipers, while the 19-inch dark silver alloys on GTS grades are now 1.2kg lighter per wheel. Three new exterior colours have been added to the GR Supra’s palette, with Copper Grey, Azure Blue and Matte White replacing the existing Suzuka Silver and Goodwood Grey.
The GTS grade cars can also be had with a new tan interior colour scheme, replacing red.
