One of the country’s most popular electric cars has been recalled over a potential seat belt problem.
Tesla has issued a recall for the Model 3 over an issue that can impact the way the seat belt system operates.
“Due to the vehicle design, servicing certain components requires disassembly of the second row left seat belt buckle and centre seat belt anchor, both of which are fastened with the same bolt,” reads the recall notice.
“During servicing, it is possible the seat belt buckle & anchor may have been re-assembled to the fastening bolt incorrectly. As a result, the seat belt may not operate as intended.
“In the event of an accident, a seat belt not operating as intended could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupant.”
The recall affects 346 Model 3s, built between 2017 and 2022.
“Tesla will contact affected owners, requesting to make an appointment with their preferred authorised Tesla dealership to have the component inspected and rectified, free of charge,” the notice adds.
The recall comes as the brand deals with a North American recall over its Model S and Model X impacting just over 40,000 vehicles.
The American recall states that some models can temporarily lose their power assist steering when driving over rough roads or potholes. Tesla says less than 1% of recalled models will be affected by the issue.
The American recall is remedied via an over-the-air update already issued by the company earlier this month.
