Tesla has stopped reservations for the Cybertruck in Europe and Asia, now only taking reservations for its electric pickup truck (ute) in North America where it’s expected next year.
Nearly 1.5 million reservations have been estimated, with production likely to start in 2023, mainly at Giga Texas, Electrek reports.
Unveiled in 2019, the Cybertruck was delayed as Tesla focussed on Model Y production.
Sufficient reservations have been received so that deliveries will probably be limited to reservation holders for the first three years of production.
“Now, Tesla has removed the option to reserve the Cybertruck for anyone outside of North America,” Electrek says.
It adds that Tesla was expected to run into regulatory issues with the Cybertruck in Europe due to its design, considering a smaller and redesigned version for that and some other global markets like Australia and New Zealand.
Details of the Texas-built production version have yet to be revealed, Electrek adding that Tesla removed Cybertruck specs and pricing from its website late last year.
