Subaru’s go-fast performance flagship, the WRX STI, has been recalled over an issue with its reverse camera and reverse lights.
Subaru of Australia issued the recall earlier this month. It explains that, when the car is in reverse, the reverse lamps and rear-view camera may not function.
The recall affects WRX STIs built between 2015 and 2021. According to the brand, this equates to 5702 vehicles in total.
“The reverse lamps may not illuminate and the rear-view reverse camera may not display the rearwards image when reversing as intended,” says Subaru Australia in its recall notice.
“If the reverse lamps and the rear-view reverse camera do not operate as intended, it could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to persons located behind the vehicle and/or other road users.
“Affected owners can book their vehicle for a free rectification at any authorised Subaru Service Centre Australia-wide.”
It’s the second significant recall issued by Subaru this month. In early August the brand announced it would be recalling almost 70,000 vehicles built between 2015 and 2018 over a braking issue.
