Polestar rolls out P2.0 OTA update, gets support from customers

The Polestar 2 has only just landed in Australia, and already the model is set to inherit a series of changes via Polestar’s latest P2.0 over-the-air (OTA) update.

Specifically, the update adds in Android R (also known as Android 11) for those who use the Android operating system in their 2s. This brings with it “enhanced app and functionality potential” along with other incremental changes relative to Android’s outgoing iteration.

It’s the latest in a series of OTA updates Polestar has successfully issued to customers; some being free to all customers and others being optional extras.

The brand has issued 10 rounds of OTA updates for the Polestar 2 thus far, with new features packaged in these updates including the ability to schedule your car’s charging times, adding an eco climate mode, and battery preconditioning settings.

One update even made cars faster. A cost-option update limited to long-range, dual-motor variants in selected markets, the update increased power and torque figures to 350kW/680Nm, and reduced 0-100km/h time to 4.4 seconds.

“Software technology in our cars should not be much different from how the latest software is pushed out on smartphones in everyday life,” says Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath.

“With OTA updates, our customers receive constant enhancements without making a trip to a workshop. We’re very encouraged by the positive response as seen from the exceptional growth in the number of OTA installations and will continue to deliver ongoing enhancements.”

Volvo boasts that more than 90% of Polestar 2 owners have made use of the OTA updates in some way, helping provide the brand with a handy potential additional revenue stream in the future while simultaneously helping customers keep their vehicles current.
