Nissan says its next ute and heavy SUV will be battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
The next-generation Nissan Navara appears set to skip hybrid technology and go fully electric as part the Japanese automotive manufacturer’s plan to introduce 27 electrified vehicles – including 19 EVs – by 2030.
That would include the new Y63 Nissan Patrol with Nissan aiming to fast-track adoption of new solid-state battery technology, carsales.com.au reports.
It quotes Nissan executive Guillaume Cartier who visited Australia recently for a dealer conference.
“Solid-state batteries is a technology that we want to own – it’s a game-changer,” carsales.com.au reports Cartier as saying.
The new Navara and Patrol, expected to downsize from petrol V8 to turbo-petrol V6 power by 2025, will both be launched with combustion engines, and will also be engineered for EV applications, it adds.
New Navara architecture is being developed by Alliance partner Mitsubishi and will be shared with the new Triton due to debut soon.
Solid-state tech could also power the next-generation Nissan GT-R supercar – teased in the R32 EV concept, carsales.com.au explains.
It says the next-generation Navara and new Patrol are expected around 2025.
Meanwhile, Nissan has revealed in China a Pathfinder large SUV electric variant, as well as a concept for a mid-size electric SUV, the Arizon.
