The MG4 EV is the UK Car of the Year 2023, although its closest rivals were all internal combustion engine (ICE) models, unlike the top four last year which were all battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

“The MG4 proves that electric cars can be affordable, practical and appeal to all areas of the automotive market,” says UK Car of the Year Awards director John Challen.
“Fully charged, it offers more than enough miles (452km) for most journeys, while the design and driving dynamics tick two other important boxes for consumers. A deserved winner for the electric future.”
The MG4 has just debuted in Australasia at the Fully Charged Live show in Sydney.
MG UK commercial director Guy Pigounakis is thrilled with the UK Car of the Year victory.
“The MG4 has proved to be a hit with both existing and new customers since it arrived in September last year – and it is also hugely encouraging that so many expert reviewers hold the same opinion as well.”
The 27-strong UK Car of the Year Awards panel praised the MG4.
“The MG4 does everything better than anyone could have imagined for the budget,” says The Late Brake Show host Jonny Smith.
Carwow’s Paul Barker says the MG4 is: “The car several other manufacturers will wish they had built.”
“MG has done a great job of bringing EVs to more people, thanks to its pricing,” adds The Motoring Podcast host Jonny Smith, while judge James Batchelor adds: “An MG you can finally recommend on style, quality and value-for-money”.
Chris Evans, sales head at Heycar UK – sponsor of the UK Car of the Year Awards – says impressive range (452km), striking styling and design means the MG4 has an excellent balance of desirability, practicality and performance.
“With consumers facing economic pressures more than ever before, it also proves that EV ownership doesn’t have to be prohibitive. The MG4 represents fantastic value for money.”
The MG4 also won the ‘Best Family’ category, while other category winners were the Toyota Aygo X (Best City), Dacia Jogger (Best Large Family), Kia Niro (Best Crossover), Range Rover (Best Large Crossover), Toyota GR86 (Best Coupé), and Lotus Emira (Best Performance).
