Customers can pre-order now for a Mazda MX-30 Electric delivery in August

Australian consumers can now pre-order Mazda’s first-ever electric vehicle from May 5 for the initial release of 100 vehicles into the market.

The Mazda MX-30 Electric will be sold and serviced through a network of 100 Mazda dealers across Australia. Deliveries of the MX-30 Electric will start in August and customers can register their pre-order on mazda.com.au.

Mazda’s first EV yet is also part of Mazda Finance’s Mazda Assured product. Offered over one to four-year loan terms, Mazda Assured provides a guaranteed future value and lower monthly repayments and gives owners the option of trading-in, keeping or returning their vehicle at the end of the loan term.

The Mazda MX-30 Electric will be available in top-specification Astina grade and is priced from $65,490.

Standard specification includes 18-inch alloy wheels, 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, windscreen heads up display, 360-degree camera, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function and a suite of safety tech that includes 10 airbags and front cross-traffic support.

“The first-ever MX-30 Electric is a bold statement for the brand as Mazda enters its second century of operations,” Mazda Australia managing director Vinesh Bhindi says.

“We have welcomed the Mazda MX-30 M Hybrid to the Australian market, where it has been welcomed and highly praised for its cutting-edge design, intelligent materials and strong safety attributes.

“The MX-30 Electric is Mazda’s first-ever pure electric vehicle, building on the benefits of the M Hybrid to deliver a zero emissions driving experience.

“It also proves that you can have a sustainable drive while retaining the fun behind the wheel and unique driver connection that Mazda is renowned for,” he says.

Powertrain

The MX-30 Electric’s powertrain comprises a water-cooled AC synchronous electric motor, 355-volt lithium-ion battery, inverter, DC-DC converter and AC standard charger.

Direct current from the battery is converted to alternating current by the inverter to drive the motor, while the DC-DC converter steps down the voltage to supply power for the car’s auxiliary 12V requirements.

The motor, inverter, DC-DC converter and junction box are integrated into a single high-voltage unit, mounted towards the front of the vehicle. The placement of the high-voltage 35.5kWh battery pack beneath the floor keeps its mass low and central, ensuring minimal impact on interior space and handling dynamics, while maximising safety.

The battery pack’s size was carefully resolved to be true to Mazda’s ‘well-to-wheel’ philosophy.

Its size was chosen to minimise CO2 emissions throughout its life cycle, from initial resource extraction to installation, full-cycle usage and finally battery disposal, while delivering 200km of real-world emissions-free driving between charges.

The electric motor generates 107kW and an instant 271Nm torque output, sent to the front wheels via a single-speed reduction gear transmission.

Both Type 2 AC and Combo 2 DC charging connections are mounted on the right rear fender. Using an AC wallbox or public charger at 6.6kWh, the benchmark 20-80% charge is completed in approximately three hours.

Utilising the 50kWh DC charge capability reduces the 20-80% charge time to only 36 minutes.

Mazda MX-30 Electric will be supplied with a portable charger which can be plugged into a standard 240V, 10A power point and will charge from 20-80% in around 9 hours.

Colours and options

The Mazda MX-30 Electric’s standard colour palette includes Ceramic Metallic, Jet Black Mica and Arctic White.

Premium exterior colours Machine Grey Metallic and Polymetal Grey Metallic are available for $495 (MLP).

Further accentuating the Mazda MX-30’s unique design is the optional 3-tone paint finish. Mazda’s distinctive Soul Red Crystal Metallic, as well as Ceramic Metallic, are teamed with grey pillars and a black roof, while Polymetal Grey is matched with silver pillars and a black roof.

The 3-tone Ceramic metallic finish is available for $995 (MLP), while Soul Red Metallic and Polymetal Grey cost $1,490 (MLP).

The Mazda MX-30 Electric has service Intervals set at 12 months or 15,000km, whichever comes first. The five-year service plan is priced at $1,273.79. It is also covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre national warranty, with five years’ complimentary Mazda premium roadside assistance. The lithium-ion battery pack is covered by an eight-year warranty.

Mazda MX-30 Electric owners will be able to purchase an AC home charging facility through JetCharge, Mazda’s electric infrastructure partner. Further technical and availability details will be provided at launch.
