Isuzu D-Max recalled over roller shutter issue

Isuzu Ute Australia has issued a recall for its flagship double-cab ute, the D-Max X-Terrain, regarding an issue with the model’s roller shutter tonneau lid.

Because of a manufacturing issue, the screws at the front of the cover can detach over time, potentially causing the tonneau cover to fall off the back of the ute while driving.

The recall impacts D-Max X-Terrain models from 2020 and 2021. Those from this year are not affected. It comes after a similar recall was rolled out in Australia earlier this month.

“Due to a manufacturing issue, the roller tonneau front cover screws may become loose and fall out. If this occurs the tonneau front cover may detach from the vehicle while driving,” states the recall.

“If the roller tonneau front cover detaches from the vehicle while driving, it will increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to other road users or/and bystanders.

“Isuzu UTE Australia will contact affected owners in writing, requesting they make an appointment at their nearest Isuzu Ute dealer for inspection and rectification free of charge.”

New Zealand’s iteration of the recall offers some further information.

It states that Isuzu service staff performing repairs “will need to complete an initial inspection to the Roller Shutter Lid Cover and its six (6) securing screws and depending on the inspection results, carry out either a repair to the six thread holes, replacement of the securing screws (&/or) replacement of the Side Rails.”
