Ford Australia has taken then unique step of issuing a statement on its website detailing that it has paused orders 2023 model year full-size Transit vans.
The pause covers all models in the full-size Transit line-up, although questions remain over whether the upcoming fully electric E-Transit is impacted.
In its statement, Ford Australia says that production of Transit models has been hit by the well documented semiconductor shortage.
“The global semiconductor chip shortage and supply chain challenges for various commodities continues to impact vehicle production of Transit Van, Transit Cab Chassis and Transit Bus,” says the statement.
“We are doing our best to fulfill current customer orders as quickly as we can. As such, new orders for the Transit Van, Transit Cab Chassis and Transit Bus will be paused until we can get through the existing customer order bank.”
The smaller Transit Custom is not affected by the pause, with orders open for 2023 models.
The Transit order pause follows a similar pause for Mustang orders, with orders for the performance car halted altogether in July in the build-up to the launch of a new Mustang next year.
