The Fiat 500e EV is due to arrive in Australian dealerships mid-year priced from $52,500 (excluding on-road charges) in one hatch trim named ‘La Prima’, translating from Italian to ‘The First’.

It is the first model in Fiat history to be full-electric and 100% made in Italy, with a claimed European range of 311km, an evolution of the original 1957 Fiat 500 incorporating design cues and pairing them with an electric experience.

Having a 42kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Fiat 500e’s front-mounted electric motor produces 87kW power and 220Nm torque, getting from zero to 100km/h in 9.0 seconds.

It supports three different charging modes and is equipped with a CCS Combo Type 2 socket that enables both domestic AC and DC fast charging at a rate of 85kW in dedicated public stations.

DC fast charging at a rate of 85kW is offered as standard with a 0-80% charge capable in 35 minutes.

One full charge can support more than a complete working week of urban commuting – based on the average drive distance of 50km daily, says Fiat Australia.

The Fiat 500e includes an e-mode selector on the central console enabling the driver to select three different driving modes – Normal, Range and Sherpa

It features Autonomous Driving Level 2 as standard, a forward-looking camera behind the rear view mirror, intelligent adaptive cruise control (iACC), lane centering (LC), and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The La Prima launch specifications also incorporate a rear view parking camera, blind spot monitor, autonomous emergency brake control with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane control, attention assist, intelligent speed assistant with traffic sign recognition, tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic headlamp on, seat belt reminder, high-beam assist and rain sensing wipers.

Completely renewed, the Fiat 500e chassis ensures driving comfort by controlling vehicle dynamics to avoid typical EV pitch and roll movement.

Inside, the classic Fiat dashboard insert, the two-spoke steering wheel and the rounded cluster make a clear connection with the 1957 original 500.

The touchscreen infotainment system has a 10.25-inch tablet combined with a seven-inch TFT full digital cluster, and a new wireless charging pad sits under the  infotainment system.

A 500 glass roof comes standard with the Fiat 500e, along with a retractile curtain.

The Fiat 500e is rated one of the most environmentally friendly cars on the market, scoring a maximum five-star rating from the Green New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) and is said to be the first vehicle to achieve a maximum 10/10 in the energy efficiency index (EEI).

It’s available in six colours – Ice White, Onyx Black, Ocean Green, Mineral Grey, Rose Gold and Celestial Blue.

The Fiat 500e has gained 39 awards since it’s European launch.
