Eagers Automotive is grappling with the aftermath of a significant cyber attack, prompting a warning to its customers about potential security risks.
In a statement, Keith Thornton, CEO of Eagers Automotive, acknowledged the cyber incident, stating, “Our IT systems at several operational sites across Australia and New Zealand are currently experiencing outages. However, the full extent of the cyber incident is still being determined.”
Eagers Automotive, which operates over 300 dealerships throughout Australia’s states and territories, is a leading figure in the car retail sector in both Australia and New Zealand, boasting sales revenues of $8.54 billion.
The company’s extensive network includes major cities like Brisbane, Adelaide, Darwin, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney, as well as regional locations in Queensland, New South Wales’ Newcastle/Hunter Valley region, ACT, Tasmania, and Auckland.
In response to the cyber attack, Eagers says it has initiated a swift investigation with the help of external cybersecurity experts. Although there is no confirmed breach of customer or employee data at this stage, the company is taking all necessary precautions and urges customers to remain vigilant for any unusual or suspicious activities.
