New York City-headquartered global micromobility firm Helbiz will operate up to 400 e-bikes and 400 e-scooters in Queensland from late August under a one-year license with the Logan City Council.
“This latest partnership marks a significant step towards bringing safe, sustainable transportation alternatives to Australia,” says Helbiz Australia managing director Mitchell Price, adding the deal follows its plan to introduce 500 e-bikes in Sydney and 100 e-scooters in Alloggio resorts later this year.
Helbiz began operations in 2018 in Europe and in 2019 in the US.
The latest deal draws on Helbiz’s safety technology, procedures, and records, the local operations team and the Logan City Council working to ensure the safety of all road and path users with technology including artificial intelligence (AI) helmet enforcement technology, accurate geofencing that can automatically reduce the speed of a rider, and community education campaigns.
Helbiz will host community ‘free ride’ events that invite experienced and first-time riders to try out Helbiz’s EVs and learn more about how to operate them safely.
“Safety is always the focus of our operations and it is the same for our partnership with Logan,” says Helbiz chief executive Salvatore Palella.
Helbiz’s Max Plus X e-scooter has high geofence accuracy with a 0.06 second response time. The e-scooter can immediately identify and respond to slow zones or no-ride zones and uses turning indicators, making safer conditions for all road and path users.
The brand’s e-scooters in Australia are powered by 100% clean energy and will reduce single-occupant motor vehicle trips in Logan, helping the city meet its goal of creating more sustainable communities.
Launched in 2015, Helbiz offers a diverse fleet of vehicles including e-scooters, e-bicycles, and e-mopeds on one user-friendly platform with more than 50 licenses in cities around the world.
Helbiz utilises a customised, proprietary fleet management technology, AI, and environmental mapping to optimise operations and business sustainability
The company is expanding its urban lifestyle products and services to include live streaming services, food delivery and more, all accessible within its mobile app.
