Electric cars and e-bikes will be on show at the Brisbane Electric Vehicle Experience: Zero Emissions Vehicle Car Show at Victoria Park in Herston as part of a community campaign encouraging more Australians to make the switch to clean electric transport.
More than 600 people already have tickets for the event on Saturday April 23, 10am-1pm, hosted by Solar Citizens and the Australian Electric Vehicle Association.
EV owners will be on hand to answer questions about everything from charging, maintenance and how to purchase an EV.
The event will also feature stallholders selling electric bikes, charging infrastructure and the RACQs specially equipped electric charging tow truck.
“With petrol prices around $2 a litre there’s a lot of interest in Brisbane from people keen to make the switch to electric: to save money, bring down carbon emissions and clean up the air in our cities,” says Solar Citizens national director Ellen Roberts.
Annerley resident Paul Guard will bring his Hyundai Ioniq 5 to the show, explaining how he “electrified everything” and was able to help people lacking power after the Brisbane floods with the Ioniq’s vehicle-to-load (V2L) function.
“In addition to clean transport, EVs are an important source of energy storage, not just for emergency situations like the floods but to help balance supply and demand,” he says.
Jane O’Sullivan is part of the team helping at the Brisbane EV experience and she is keen to share the benefits of becoming leaders in clean transport and creating jobs in local manufacturing.
O’Sullivan aims for her next car to be electric and hopes it will be cheaper and Australian-made by then.
