The new BMW 5 Series sedan range includes two electric models – the i5 eDrive40 and i5 M60 xDrive – the eighth generation of the 5 Series launching in Australia later this year.

A single petrol model is offered in Australia via the 520i variant with pricing from $114,900 (recommended retail which includes GST and LCT but excludes on-road costs).

It is the most advanced developed and will bring an array of features and digital innovations.

Maximum output and torque figures for the four-cylinder engine are 153kW and 330Nm respectively, helping its 7.5-second sprint time.

A new eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission is included.

The new 520i engine features a 48-volt mild hybrid system, the 5 Series including illuminated kidney grille surrounds, adaptive LED headlights, interior design and comfort levels adopted from the flagship BMW 7 Series, a new BMW Operating System 8.5 which features a QuickSelect menu, the debut of an in-car gaming function using the smartphone as controller, and variable steering ratio as standard on all models.

Proactive Care debuts as part of the launch to elevate customer experience.

The new edition has grown in length by 97 millimetres to 5060mm, in width by 32mm to 1900mm and in height by 36mm to 1515mm while its wheelbase has lengthened by 20mm to 2995mm.

Black side skirts, flush-mounted door handles and an embossed number 5 at the base of the C-pillar add further touches.

The Welcome and Goodbye Light projects onto the area around the vehicle at night, enhancing safety for occupants.

All BMW 5 Series models for Australia are fitted as standard with the M Sport package, while the fully electric i5 models can be specified with M Sport Plus.

A range of paint finishes is also available.

The cockpit has a significantly reduced number of buttons and controls compared with the predecessor model, achieved by consistently digitalising functions.

The BMW Curved Display reinterprets the brand’s hallmark idea of driver orientation. The fully digital display system comprises a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display, while the steering wheel has also been redesigned.

The BMW Interaction Bar, standard on all BMW 5 Series models for Australia, extends across the entire width of the instrument panel far into the door panels and includes touch-sensitive control panels.

Fully vegan elements feature in the new interior, and light alloy wheels in sizes ranging between 19- and 21-inches are available.

Advanced driver assistance features are offered across the board, and the new BMW 5 Series can be parked remotely with a smartphone using My BMW App and BMW Digital Key Plus.

The electric BMW i5 is equipped with enhanced fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology.

The range-topping BMW i5 M60 xDrive combines a 442kW electric drive with hallmark M performance and specific design features.

Two highly integrated drive units are on the front and rear axles.

System torque is up to 820Nm when M Sport Boost or the M Launch Control function is activated, enabling the BMW i5 M60 to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 3.8-seconds, while the 230km/h top speed is electronically limited.

The BMW i5 eDrive40 features an electric motor driving the rear wheels and generates a maximum output of 250kW and torque of up to 430Nm with the Sport Boost or Launch Control function. The BMW i5 eDrive40 accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 6.0-seconds and has a 193km/h top speed.

The 84kWh battery, in addition to the efficient electric motors, the latest version of adaptive recuperation and an intelligent combination of heat pump technology for heating and cooling the interior, drive and high-voltage battery, enables 516km range for the BMW i5 M60 xDrive and 582km for the BMW i5 eDrive40.

A new MAX RANGE function can increase range by up to 25% if required by limiting power and speed and deactivating comfort functions.

The Combined Charging Unit (CCU) of the BMW i5 enables AC charging with an input of up to 22kW and can be plugged into a domestic household plug or connected to the third generation BMW Wallbox – now available in Australia.

The high-voltage battery can be charged with direct current with a power of up to 205kW. This enables the battery charge level in the BMW i5 to be raised from 10 to 80% on a high-speed charger in around 30 minutes.

The new BMW i5 models are delivered with a domestic charger (Mode 2) and the AC Public Charging Cable Professional (Mode 3) charger.

A complimentary five-year subscription to Chargefox, is also offered as standard for the BMW i5 M60 xDrive and i5 eDrive40.

Customers should contact their nearest BMW dealer for all pricing enquiries.
