Australia’s Neuron hits 20m km

Neuron Mobility has hit a milestone with its e-scooter and e-bike riders travelling 20 million kilometres in Australia – equal to going to the moon and back 26 times.

Since first launching in Brisbane in 2019, Neuron has been a leading provider of micromobility across Australia and New Zealand.

“It’s an enormous achievement and a testament to the incredible growth of micromobility in just a few short years,” says Neuron Mobility ANZ head Richard Hannah.

“We have had great success in expanding our services to now have a presence in every capital city in the country. This reinforces the demand for e-scooters and e-bikes, and demonstrates the wide acceptance of micromobility as an integral part of our transport mix

Recently, the company celebrated three years of successful operations in Brisbane, making it Australia’s longest operating tenure in a single city for rental e-scooters by a micromobility provider. Partnering with one city to 14 in three years, Neuron operates in 14 locations around Australia.

Starting with 600 e-scooters in Brisbane, the company now has more than 8000 e-scooters and e-bikes across Australia.

Data from Neuron shows that 65% of rides result in a purchase at a business, bringing a welcome boost to the local economy.

Additionally, one in 10 trips wouldn’t have happened if e-scooters weren’t available, meaning local businesses would have missed out on valuable sales. These additional trips resulted in an estimated 1.2 million purchases that would not otherwise have happened.

Neuron has implemented a range of community initiatives in Australia, including $100,000 of free trips to support Australian vaccination efforts in July 2021 and provided hundreds of free passes for healthcare workers during the COVID-19 lockdown in Brisbane and Adelaide.

Neuron also has a Reconciliation Action Plan formally endorsed by Reconciliation Australia.

The micromobility company is an equal opportunity employer, actively partnering with not-for-profit disability and Aboriginal and indigenous employment services that provide employment opportunities for people from a diverse range of backgrounds, including Blind Citizens Australia, Killara Foundation, Workskil Australia and Recovery Your Way.

According to Neuron’s data, 45% of all trips replace car journeys, saving an estimated 14600 tonnes of CO2 emissions across Australia.

Neuron launched its first impact report earlier this year, taking ambitious measures to reduce its emissions footprint in the supply chain, manufacturing, operations and end of life treatment for vehicles.

Its global e-scooter operations have been certified as a Carbon Neutral Service, and the company has NoCO2 certification, ensuring it is investing in global projects that reduce carbon emissions, also making the commitment to be carbon negative by 2025.

The company recently launched ScootSafe Academy, an interactive, online riding school developed in consultation with the Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF). It gamifies rider education with city-specific materials on the importance of safety, and also delivers targeted training modules to riders who have broken the rules.

Neuron regularly organises safety campaigns to reinforce responsible riding through partnerships with ARSF, and Blind Citizens Australia, developing a series of training materials.

It implemented third party rider liability insurance for e-scooters, in a move to protect and reassure riders and the wider community.

Neuron recently secured Series B funding led by top Australian venture capital firm Square Peg, GSR Ventures, and joined by Singapore’s EDBI. The new investment allows it to continue designing and manufacturing its own e-scooters, as well as developing and rolling out innovative technology at scale.
