Jaguar Land Rover unveiled the all-new fifth-generation Range Rover family at the Royal Opera house in London, UK on October 27, 2021 promising that an all-electric model will arrive in 2024.
A long wheelbase seven-seat Range Rover sitting on 23-inch alloy wheels and a short wheelbase Range Rover SV sitting on 22-inch alloy wheels were unveiled by Jaguar Land Rovers chief creative officer Professor Gerry McGovern.
Sitting on an all-new MLA platform from launch this month the new Range Rover will offer turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), and from 2024 the first all-electric Range Rover will become available to global markets.
McGovern joked that the brand had created the seven-seat long wheelbase Range Rover ‘over his dead body’ but Jaguar Land Rover chief commercial officer Lennard Hoornik says the brand spoke to more than 30,000 customers during the five-year design journey and there was overwhelming global demand for such a product.
Final specifications are yet to be confirmed but the new Range Rover will offer such items as a panoramic roof, Meridian sound systems with road noise cancelling technology, four-wheel-steering for a 11-metre turning circle, Amazon Alexa voice control technology, an optional tailgate events suite, and software over the air (SOTA) updates.
The Range Rover PHEV models will offer emissions free driving of up to 100km from their DC chargeable traction batteries.
The Range Rover SV models offer yet more luxury features according to SV operations chief executive Michael van de Sande. There are two different models on offer being the SV Serenity and the SV Intrepid pictured above which he says offers a ‘stealthier’ look.
